Why I Teach Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ – A Trauma-Informed Path to Healing, Awareness, and Empowerment

A New Approach to an Ancient Practice

Kundalini Yoga has been one of the most powerful tools I’ve ever discovered for healing, awareness, and transformation. It’s an energy-based, trauma-informed yoga practice that reconnects us with our true essence — body, mind, and soul — helping us remember who we really are beneath the pain, stress, and conditioning of life.

When the truth about Yogi Bhajan’s actions came to light, I felt deep sadness, anger, and confusion… emotions that echoed throughout the global yoga community. I am grateful to the survivors who courageously shared their experiences. Their voices matter deeply. As someone who knows what it’s like to stay silent after trauma, I have the utmost respect and compassion for them.

That awakening, both collective and personal, became a turning point for me. I realized I was being called to teach Kundalini Yoga in a way that honors its ancient wisdom but sheds the layers of control, ego, and hierarchy that have clouded it. A way rooted in love, safety, and empowerment. That’s when Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ was born.

“Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ was born from my desire to honor this ancient, powerful practice while removing the ego, rigidity, and dogma that have caused harm.”

The Power of Trauma-Informed Yoga and Energy Healing

As both a teacher and an energy healer, I’ve seen time and again how trauma-informed yoga can help people release stored tension, regulate their nervous systems, and rediscover inner peace. I’ve witnessed healing through yoga, as students find relief from anxiety, PTSD, depression, and chronic stress, and begin to feel whole again.

My own journey began after a profound Kundalini awakening, an experience that forever changed how I understood energy, healing, and consciousness. That awakening opened my awareness to the power of energy-based yoga — yoga that moves beyond physical poses and into the energetic and emotional layers of the self.

When practiced with sensitivity and awareness, Kundalini Yoga for trauma recovery becomes a bridge, a way to gently release old pain and reconnect to vitality, clarity, and inner strength.

“Energy-based yoga connects us to the part of ourselves that already knows how to heal.”

Letting Go of Dogma and Finding Authentic Yoga

When I began my teacher training, I was excited to deepen my understanding of this mystical, ancient yoga. But I also quickly noticed elements that didn’t feel aligned. There were rules about what to wear, what to eat, and even what to believe. I remember signing an agreement to wear white and cover my head, not realizing at the time that this was appropriated from another culture and not necessary to the essence of the practice.

Something in me knew that authentic yoga practice isn’t about appearance or obedience. It’s about awareness, truth, and connection to the soul.

Over time, I let go of the rigidity and created my own authentic path, one that keeps the heart of the yoga intact but removes the dogma and ego. That’s how Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ came to life, a modern, trauma-informed approach to Kundalini Yoga that honors both its roots and our human need for autonomy, safety, and choice.

“I teach from the heart — not from a script, a lineage, or a hierarchy. Just authentic yoga for real people.”

Letting Go of Dogma and Finding Authentic Yoga Practice

I’ve often said I want to retrieve Kundalini Yoga from the clutches of ego-driven misuse, but in truth, I never left it. I never taught it in a dogmatic, cultish, or controlling way. I’ve always seen this yoga as a tool for self-empowerment, not a means of power over others.

Yoga itself is thousands of years old, far older than any single teacher, lineage, or modern guru. The misuse of power we’ve witnessed in various yoga traditions (Kundalini, Bikram, Ashtanga, and others) reflects the same patriarchal structures being dismantled across society. But the practice itself, the sacred, healing technology of yoga, remains pure.

As an energy healer and trauma survivor, I’ve witnessed firsthand that Kundalini Yoga works. It promotes healing, eases addictions, reduces anxiety, and supports recovery from trauma. I’ve seen it transform people, including myself, by reconnecting us with the love, light, and awareness already within.

“The yoga isn’t broken, the systems of control are. When we unplug from ego, the true healing begins.”

What to Expect in a Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ Class

When you come to class, you’ll find a safe, welcoming, inclusive space… one that supports your personal journey of healing and awareness.

You can wear whatever feels comfortable.

There are no rules about what you “should” look like or believe.

We use breathwork, gentle movement, mantra, and meditation to calm the nervous system and release stored energy. Everything is guided through a trauma-informed lens, so you’re always in control of your experience. You are your own guru. I’m just here to hold the space and guide you safely through it.

There are no physical assists or forced postures. Consent is always honored. Sometimes after class, someone will ask for a hug, and that’s beautiful… but it’s never assumed. Healing starts with respect, safety, and choice.

I’ve seen students reconnect with joy, creativity, confidence, and peace. That’s the beauty of this work. It helps people return home to themselves.

Empowerment Through Yoga: Healing Through Awareness

For me, Kundalini Yoga Unplugged™ is yoga for real life.
