Yoga Nidra is considered the most relaxing of yoga traditions, connecting us to our True Self and Source where we can increase our AWARENESS and heal.
Yoga Nidra – Yoga Nidra is the most vitally needed yoga in today’s over-busy, over-stressed world. Often called “transformational sleep yoga,” it is similar to guided meditation and gently deepens into an almost-sleeping state where the brainwaves are slowed, the body relaxes and the mind releases overthinking.Via Nidra, we experience the Oneness of our being through a relaxing journey into the deepening layers of Awareness where we can connect to Source and/or our True Self. It’s a place of empowerment where healing and transformation occurs.Classes often have a specific intention or goal (such as healing, releasing old pain, or increasing connection to self or you can design your own intention in class). Every session is different but you will gain insight, deep relaxation and peace from each one.
Preparation: Students prepare for Yoga Nidra by preparing their “nest.” This can be done on bed, floor or couch. If you prefer sitting, that works too. Make sure the surface is supportive.
In the beginning, when it’s harder to stay awake during a session, it’s best to lie on the floor so you don’t become too comfortable. There’s nothing inherently wrong with falling asleep in class but the ideal state for practicing Nidra is the pre-sleep state of mind.
A “nest” may consist of any of the following: yoga mat, blanket(s), blocks, bolsters, pillows, lighted candle, and/or essential oils. Some people like to roll a towel into a tight roll and place it under the neck or knees. Test your nest! Make sure you can completely relax and stay warm throughout class.
Private Nidra Sessions: Private sessions differ from traditional Yoga Nidra classes. At the beginning of your session, we will discuss your current challenges and needs. You choose the topic for your class. There is more cross-dialog in the private sessions as you are guided to body-awareness and sensitivity. Because of the one-on-one nature of the class, allow 75 minutes for your private class.
